Unfortunately, there aren’t supposed to be too many jobs for the medical biller or coder or medical assistant (MA) despite what those private $$ tech schools proclaim. For any tech training, please consider the more affordable county vo-tech school or community college as long as it’s accredited within the industry.

The MA program would most likely teach the phlebotomy and ekg tech as well as learning to take blood pressure, pulse and basic office skills and such. With medical billing, a lot of companies are outsourcing to Asia/India which is what happened to my cousin who worked in billing for five years before getting laid off. With medical coding, the person needs at least a couple years experience doing coding tasks, certification(s) in the field and preferably completion of an accredited program to possibly get a job as a coder.

For general career info: http://www.bls.gov/oco and can search ‘medical assistants’ or such. Please keep in mind that many MAs are struggling to find work as it is :)
