I’m thinking about a medical billing, coding class. I am a felon. How realistic is it that I can get a job?

I am a 37 yr old single mom with a dead end job. I am also a felon. I have read that medical billing and coding is one of the few jobs I can get with a felony, without going to school for along time. I know that felons can’t get a job in the medical field so I am wondering how realistic it is that I will be able to get a job. Any suggestions??

I think you have a decent change if you work hard at the training and do well. Also, be up front about your past problems with a prospective employer when you interview. Let them know you’ve had problems in the past but you’ve worked hard to turn things around.

depends on the nature of the felony… violent crime? theft? if so, then chances aren’t good, but it also depends on your timing.

whoa, where did you get your source from that medical billing and coding that can get you with felony, i believe that is not true, because that jobs require to check out your background and depend on the company that either will leastly 1 out of 5 will hire you or plain out end the interview in 49 seconds. Volunteer for Community Service. It looks good on a resume, it puts you in a networking position, it exposes you to potential employers, it keeps you away from an unsavory crowd, and it should make you feel better about yourself. Apply to state and federal agencies. They have to hire you if you qualify. Your conviction should not count against you unless you are forbidden to work in a area that would violate law, or prevent you from getting a security clearance. (Hit the latter with one company myself) Good Luck!
