How do I become a Medical Coder?

I am currently a stay at home mom but would like to pursue a career as a medical coder. Do I need to go back to school or just try to get a job as a receptionist and work my way up? Where do i start? Thanks!

I am attending a college called REMINGTON they offer a nine month program for medical coder and insurance. It’s a nice school but varies where your location is. You could maybe land a spot without schooling, but goodluck. Employers want someone with experience. I’m sure you can find a school close by, where are you from?

It is a pain in the neck course, too much ARBITRARY sublety and nuance in that voluminous ICD9 book.

And can You read the hieroglyphs that the doctors scribble?

No. No wonder people die of prescription medicines.

The whole field is needlessly convoluted and hampered by excessive
    arbitrary sequencing rules.

If a patient has ten background medical conditions and three medical
procedures they want You to enumerate them sequentailly in a DIFFERENT WAY depending on a whole host of various and often
contradictary and (changing every year) rules.

It is unimaginative, tedious, hack work- They all want You to have
experience first, Go in For Nursing instead, That is vastly preferable, easier and far more lucrative.

They can shove Medical Coding up their insouciant nose.
