Well that depends if you are already a medical biller and you are comfortable with your knowledge of medical billing you can become a Certified Medical Reimbursement Specialist, try this website for more information on the test and price (http://www.ambanet.net/AMBA.htm). Now if your looking to receive a degree in Medical billing and Coding there are a lot of universities and well as online colleges that offer degrees in medical billing which includes certification prep courses.

Here is the history of the patient medical bill:

-Doctor dictates what happens during a visit.
    -Medical Transcriptionist transcribes the report.
-The medical coder extracts info from the transcribed report to find the diagnosis, procedures, and supplies used during the visit and applies alpha numeric codes.
-The medical biller takes this record and now bills the insurance carrier either through electronic or other means.

You don’t need to be certified to do doctor’s office coding, but it is helpful to have an AHIMA certification.

For medical billing you do not need to be certified either, but several certifications exist if you would like to be certified. Certification does look good on a resume. You CAN hold a billing certification w/o being certified in coding.

    I hope this helps.

I would like to point out that quality training is essential to your success in this field.

    Best wishes to you.
